SONGS FROM THE MOON is a seven-part podcast that blends music and spoken-word to tell the story of a society gone horribly wrong and one man’s challenge to put things back on track.
Transmission 1 : Taken By The Glow We meet our hero Cab, at the end of his rope. Depressed and miserable, he is looking to blame someone for the mess that his life has become and wonders how humans in the 21st century “gave up” on freedom. He rants - via his secret blog - until he gets a mysterious call from a friend that turns things around… at least for the time being.
RECAP - In our last transmission we met Cab and got an ugly earful of what society has become in Cab’s past and our future. We received a close up look at two of Cab’s main survival tools: drugs and music…and we met Low-G, Cab’s dreadlocked partner in survival. Meanwhile Cab added some tasty guitar licks to G’s most recent tune, a little contra/band otherwise known as ‘unsanctioned music’. A capitol offense.
Transmission 2 : Only Color From Now On Tucked away and living in a run-down lunar base called Shackleton’s Basement, inside the moon, Cab describes the evils of the corporate-controlled Unity House government that runs his life: the army of robots called PFRENDS (People Friendly Robots Engineered w/ Neural DynamicS); and the hypnotic propaganda barker called ThePowerShow…then he slips away to share with us his little slice of personal paradise.
RECAP - In our previous transmission, Cab shared his frustrations about the controlling State, his dilapidated confines on Luna, his romantic view of an earth he can no longer reach and after we meet his pet guitar Gibby, we witnessed a forbidden jam session under the the radiant backdrop of a rising Mother Blue.
Transmission 3 : The Black Wind In this transmission we meet DAD, Cab’s Intel Butler, who fills us in on Cab’s background and gives us a chilling first-hand account of the Earth-shattering war known as “The Break”. Aside from being a life size hologram of Cab’s long deceased father, DAD is unique in that he shares a secret set of memories with Cab of life on Earth before THE BREAK, before humanity was owned by THE STATE, when there was a life that was wild and free.
RECAP - Through our last few transmissions, we’ve learned that Cab is stuck on the moon toiling his life away as a librarian (but plays a pretty mean guitar)…and that his caste, called “the nots”, are under the thumb of the oppressive Unity House government. We’ve had a taste of THE STATE'S hypno/omnipresent/propaganda arm that fuels incessant consumption while spewing the party line, until Cab’s dad delivered a devastating first hand account of THE BREAK.
Transmission 4 : Honore’ Today we ask: What happens when you get dumped by your hot-bot? We find Cab’s romantic EX delivering a summary of their relationship to her employer: It’s a lesson on the dangers of falling in love with a PFREND.
RECAP - So up until now, we’ve met Cab’s cold ,cold EX Honore, his sassy hologram DAD, we've listened in on a secret jam session with his buddy Low-G, heard an earful of concocted drivel from his nemesis ThePowerShow, and gotten a glimpse of how the future sees our current freedoms and democracy as evil. Can you blame the guy for medicating? At this point, you may be asking yourself, is hope going to show up? Somewhere?
Transmission 5 : What If Love Was Perfect - Cab lives in a world where all historical data is owned by the State and they have twisted history's narrative to control society. Fed up with their manipulative crap, Cab goes toe-to-proverbial-toe with ThePowerShow about the love in our souls versus the “TruLove” of The State's sponsored religion.
RECAP - So Cab HATES ThePowerShow, and ThePowerShow is not even a person…it is an inescapable audio and video sound wall (picture all the halls of Shackleton lined floor to ceiling with crackling video) that is meant to drown out anyone’s sense of individuality and free will, all the while making you feel good about being a lemming. But as Cab was spouting his take on love, we saw a glimmer of hope through love: its wild spirit and its divine humanness….and as shitty as Cab’s life is, he still recognizes and holds on to love as the spark of creation, of creativity and hope for a free future. Ah, but how to break the chains?
Transmission 6: Cab’s Ride - Cab heads up to the lunar surface to visit his friend Low-G and finds an epiphany in the stars that will not only change his life, but perhaps the future of humanity.
RECAP -In our final transmission, Cab’s wild ride into the stars aka his communion with Mother Blue, opens a door in his battered mind, and unleashes just an essence of an idea where hope can grow with a reason to break free from his stark, controlled reality.
Transmission 7 : Bitter Skin - An empowered Cab recounts the discovery of THE STATE'S blueprint for control and realizes he may not be the only one that is onto their evil tricks. Does he take the risk of sending his secret blogs back in time to try and change our complacent behavior? Or does he stay to fight the Unity House and topple ThePowerShow? It’s Cabs' big moment.
